Collection: Mexican Blanket Zarapes

The sarape is a long rectangular blanket in bright colours with fringes at the ends; its use is extremely popular among men. If the rectangular blanket has an opening for the head, it is known as a gabán or jorongo. The length of a sarape or jorongo can vary, but the back is usually made to reach the knees of the average person. The typical colours of these garments are combinations of black, gray and brown, according to the natural colour of the flocks of sheep that grow in the area. This garment began to be used in Tlaxcala, and during the colonial period, it spread throughout New Spain, adapting to other climates and reasons.
